The Tor is a modern anti-materiel rifle of Polish origin. It was developed in the early 2000's under a Polish military project called Wilk. The Tor is also known as the WKW, a Polish abbreviation for "large caliber sniper rifle".
The Tor is a bolt-action anti-materiel rifle with a bullpup design. The fluted and heavy free float barrel is longer than many rifles in the same category. A large multi-slotted muzzle brake is fitted. Optics are installed on a Picatinny rail on the receiver. A Schmidt & Bender 3-12x scope is standard issue. There are no backup iron sights. A bipod and rear monopod are fitted.
Tor fires the 12.7x99mm NATO round from a 7 round detachable box magazine. As a bolt-action rifle rate of fire is relatively low. Maximum effective range is quoted as 2 km. The weight and large muzzle brake result in low felt recoil. The barrel length and profile indicate that accuracy and consistency of follow-up shots is likely to be good.
The Tor was developed under the Polish Wilk project for domestic use. It was adopted in the mid 2000's and several orders were placed. The Tor is available for export and has been exported to at least two nations. Vietnam is a notable export user of the Tor, where it is used alongside anti-materiel rifles chambered in 12.7x108mm Soviet.
